A winter dream in the UNESCO World Heritage Site: skiing on the Aletsch Glacier

The mountain village of Riederalp is part of the Aletsch Arena ski area and is made up of several regions such as Bettmeralp, Fiesch and the Aletsch Glacier itself. An approximately 10-minute gondola ride takes you and your family to the car-free village, which lies at 1,900 metres above sea level. The surrounding ski area boasts a network of slopes around 100 km long in total. The entire area is divided into 40 km of slopes for beginners (blue), 50 km for advanced skiers (red) and 10 km of black runs for professionals. Freeriders can also let off steam on the 15 km of ski routes in the backcountry.

The Glacier Panorama Tour, the Aletsch Snowpark on Bettmeralp, the Family Funslope for children and night skiing are just some of the many highlights in the region.

Activities for families and children on the Riederalp

A bonus for families with children right from the start: children under the age of 16 ski for free every Saturday, while young people aged 16-20 can expect a discount of 15-20 % compared to the adult rate. As soon as you arrive on the mountain as a family, you can enjoy the beginner-friendly runs around the Moos- and Hohfluh, for example. Here, parents with children can enjoy the wide, gentle slopes. There is also the Gletschi Family Funslope. This is an area that helps beginners in particular to safely learn their first turns in the snow. The Bettmeralp area offers easy waves, a snow tunnel and many other attractions.

Tip: If you prefer walking, you can also start right on the doorstep on the Riederalp. The winter hiking trail to Ried Mörel is around 9 kilometres long and leads through a beautiful mountain landscape and the snow-covered Riederwald forest.

Tours on the Aletsch Glacier for all levels

Have you never been able to admire a glacier up close? Then you've come to the right place in the canton of Valais. The entire region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be visited in many different ways:

  • Viewpoint: The View Point Moosfluh, located at 2,333 metres, is in the immediate vicinity of Riederalp and can be reached in both summer and winter. From here, you can enjoy an indescribable panorama with a direct view of the Aletsch Glacier. A winter hike back to Riederalp also starts from the viewpoint.
  • Guided ski tours and avalanche courses: Not satisfied with viewing the glacier from afar? Various mountain schools offer guided tours and ensure unforgettable moments on the mountain. You can also take part in avalanche training. Get the right gear for your first ski tour, including the necessary safety equipment, in the INTERSPORT Rent shop on Riederalp.
