More about the author

Some people seem to panic at the latest when the last day before setting off on their skiing holiday arrives. Things are packed twice, while other things are completely forgotten. Our RENTertainers have put together a packing list for your ski holiday to make sure you don't forget anything.

If, as you go through the list, you realize you're missing some equipment or clothing, don't worry - we have the right gear for your winter sports adventure at one of our more than 800 locations.

The packing list for your skiing holiday

We have divided the following packing list into different categories to give you a better overview. Our tip at this point: Use Packing bags to separate the underwear from the protectors. This not only keeps everything in one pile, but also saves you time when packing, clearing out and finding your way around the hotel or apartment.

The perfect ski clothing for your winter holiday

Anyone who has already been on a skiing holiday will be able to confirm that the temperatures at 3,000 metres can be different to those in the valley. The right ski clothing fulfils an important job here: it...

  • ... protects against the weather (rain, wind, snow).
  • ... provides warmth.
  • ... enables optimum breathability and moisture exchange.

Anyone going on their skiing holiday for the first time is faced with a mountain of investments: a new ski jacket, the perfect ski trousers, mid layers, etc. At INTERSPORT Rent, you can rent and test the ski clothing you need before you buy everything new. Our local winter sports experts will be happy to advise you on the best membranes and textiles on the market.

Frequently asked questions about the packing list for your ski holiday

How much ski underwear should I plan for a week?

This depends on a number of factors: Intensity, duration of your skiing and whether you perspire a lot or a little. If you don't sweat much, you can probably get by with a set of merino wool ski underwear. In contrast to synthetic fabrics, merino does not smell even after several days and also keeps you warm. If you sweat a lot, you should have 2 to 3 sets with you.

What do you wear under ski underwear?

You shouldn't wear anything under your ski underwear. It forms the first layer of clothing on the skin and is there to absorb moisture and pass it on to the next layer of clothing. This is known as the onion principle or layering. Depending on the material, the layers of clothing provide additional warmth.

What should you not wear when skiing?

We do not recommend wearing cotton clothing. The reason is that while it keeps you warm and absorbs moisture, it releases it very slowly. So once you sweat through it, it takes a long time for the moisture to evaporate.

What are the items that are always forgotten?

People often forget to bring sunscreen, lip balm, or sunglasses up the mountain. Even when the sky is cloudy, the sun's rays are much more intense than in the valley. So don't forget to apply sunscreen regularly!

If you wear a slim beanie under your helmet, you will also appreciate having a dry head during breaks.
