Slovakia: 60 minutes to ski joy

An affordable skiing experience at smaller resorts

Slovakia is a great and comparatively cheap alternative to skiing in the Alps. In the mountainous country, there are very favourable conditions for winter sports. The mixture of a snowy climate and well-developed snow-making facilities is what makes it so appealing.

The most popular ski resorts in Slovakia are located in the north-east of the country, in the Fatra-Tatra Area. Yet, there are also numerous small winter sports resorts in the Small Carpathians in the west of the country or in the eastern mountain range of Nízke Beskydy.

Tip: Skiing and snowboarding are possible in almost every part of Slovakia. It is said that the nearest ski resort is never more than 60 minutes away by car, no matter where you are.

Ski rental made easy! Thanks to INTERSPORT Rent, it's never been easier to get your gear. Simply select your equipment online, reserve it for the desired time period, pick it up during your ski holiday and test it on the most beautiful Slovakian slopes!

Skiing in Slovakia

More about the ski resorts

Did you know that Slovakia is home to the smallest high mountain range in the world, the High Tatras? They are also home to the country's best-known ski resorts. In total, the country has more than 460 kilometres of ski runs. Cross-country skiing is very popular in Slovakia as well. The Central European republic boasts a whopping 600 kilometres of cross-country trails.

Five of the most famous ski resorts in Slovakia:

  • Jasná Nizke Tatry
Slovakia's largest ski resort is located on the north and south sides of the 2,024-metre Chopok, and it's a popular site of the women's World Cup races.

  • Vysoké Tatry – Tatranská Lomnica
Five months of guaranteed snow, state-of-the-art lift facilities and wide, spacious slopes. These are the merits of Tatranská Lomnica, situated in the High Tatras.
Only for the brave: The start of the steepest and highest ski run in the region is at 2,190 metres above sea level. On your descent, you'll cover an altitude difference of 1,300 metres.

INTERSPORT Rent Tip

Our RENTertainers recommend

Are you thinking about a city trip combined with winter sports? Sure, why not! The nearest ski resort is only a stone's throw (about 40 kilometres) away from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It's name? Pezinská Baba. With 3.7 kilometres of slopes, the ski resort is rather small. However, you can spend your morning on the slopes and be in the big city in the afternoon for some shopping or sightseeing.

By the way, thanks to floodlights, you can also ski in the evening in Pezinská Baba. How about ending your day with some winter sports instead?
